Swan Lake Vintage Swirl Dress and the Tasmanian Classical Ballet Company

by Sandra Forrest on October 30, 2011

Recently I graciously accepted a kind offer by my good friend Allana to accompany her and her daughter Ella and another friend Emma and two women whom I had yet to meet to a performance of  Swan Lake by the Tasmanian Classical Ballet Company at the Burnie Arts and Function Centre.

Seriously I was ecstatic to be even asked, I mean how often do you get invited to something that fabulous living out where we live in no mans land. You have to understand the demographic of where we live on the North West Coast of Tasmania; it is gorgeous and picturesque but it is small country town and this kind of offer doesn’t come along everyday.

Now what to wear to the ballet?

I didn’t have to think too long and hard because not long after I got invited I was out doing an op shop hunt looking for some photographic props and lo and behold I had a serendipty moment. Whilst down on bended knee I spotted peeking out from the lower shelf  a vintage sepia coloured cloth packaged in a plastic bag. Could it really be…..

Oh my goodness it was perfect.

It was going to be a very special event regardless of the performance which I may add was absolutley fabulous. If you haven’t yet been to the ballet you surely must  go, it was so pretty and elegant. To think the human body can perform so gracefully had me bewitched right from the start and the costumes tantilised my creative mind thoroughout the whole performance.

Here I am the next day dancing around the house showing off my newly made Swan Lake swirly dress and hoping someone may mistake me for a beautiful elegant graceful swan as well and thinking, I wish I  was a beautiful ballerina. Big girls dream too you know.

Thank you Allana for what now is a wonderful happy delightful memory

which I will treasure forever. XXX

Now I have your attention let me introduce you to “Snowdrop”.

Snowdrop is a custom made hujoo doll who I like to make pretty dresses for and write stories; she is just one of a small collection of dolls I have and just like the little girl inside us all she loves to dream and dance and imagine a better world in which to live.

Please read and enjoy. Xx

Snowdrop was an elfin child she belonged in nature and was amongst friends when she danced with the flowers in the garden.

She felt like one of them growing wild and free.

Snowdrop wanted terribly to be like all the other earthly children so she named herself Isabella Grace.

She thought if she had a human name then she could be just like a real child and Isabella Grace loved to dream.

Oh how wonderful life would be thought Isabella Grace if only I were human.

Life was otherwise kind to Isabella Grace her innocence and sweetness glowed from her delicate complexion and her soft golden honey hair was as fine as spun silk; it glistened like snowdrops in the sun.

She was playful and the kindness in her eyes captivated all who glimpsed her tender beauty.

Isabella Grace lived in her head with only room for one other and in her own world distant from humans but closer to nature than man is to wife Isabella Grace was alive.

She liked to daydream and in her dreams she was loved, loved with a passion that filled her heart with overflowing. Oh yes and he was everything, everything a lover should be.

He adored Isabella Grace as she did him. Isabella Grace was in love with her imaginary friend.

He lived within her and everywhere that Isabella roamed her enchanted would be. They danced and whispered and giggled a childlike romance entwined in each other; carefree.
Tonight Isabella Grace was venturing through the wooded forest with her beloved to a secluded dell. The night sky was illuminated by the pearl of the moon. Life really was wonderful and imaginable in the mind of Isabella Grace.  Everything was achievable, everything was surreal and everything was perfect when she dreamed.

Mesmerized as the water glistened, tranquil and silent they lay together as one.

They fell into a slumber.

Tonight Isabella Grace was dreaming she dreamt she was a beautiful graceful elegant swan, together they danced the waters of the earth as their love shone brightly for the entire world to see.

The swans danced beneath the heavenly stars tonight in their world life was perfect…..to be continued.
